Featured Volunteer: Alli Penner
If you ever have a tricky question over historical revisionism or data science, look no further than this week's featured barista Alli Penner.
Alli is pursuing a Masters of Economics with a focus in data science that she will be achieving later this semester in the December graduation period. Not only is Alli a human encyclopedia for all things history and data science, but she is also one of the eldest volunteers at Second Wind which makes her the go-to source for any questions regarding the history of Second Wind.
Alli came to Second Wind for the first time during her freshman year for things like Bible study and other group activities but soon became a volunteer under Josh Hammell's directorship at the time. "If there's one thing about Second Wind that brings all of us together, I think it can be simply explained through the volunteer and donation system," Alli said.
One of her favorite memories during her time at Second Wind was during the Chicago spring break trip when all of the baristas watched the Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery special. "It was the greatest thing I've ever seen," she said.
Aside from her book smarts, Alli is also a fabulous friend and a witty jokester. She will always be there to listen if anyone ever needs a friend. For her humor, just ask her to perform impressions of some of today's most influential politicians and try not to burst into tears from her spot-on verbal caricatures.
If you want to get to know Alli better, ask her to make you a cappuccino and ask about her favorite book series, The Broken Earth Trilogy by N. K. Jemisin!
