Second Wind Awards Dr. John. M. Campbell Sr. scholarship to OU student and Second Wind barista: Hannah Cannon
The directors and Board of Second Wind voted this week to award the Campbell scholarship to Hannah Cannon, a deserving OU student and dedicated Second Wind barista and community member.
Dr. John M. Campbell Sr. was department head of the OU Petroleum Engineering school for many years and a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Norman until his death in 2013. Dr. Campbell endowed the John M. Campbell Scholarship to be awarded annually to a deserving college student who is either a member of FIrst Presbyterian Church or who is associated with the Church's college ministry, Second Wind Coffee shop.
Ms. Cannon is a student at OU majoring in non-profit administration with minors in French and social justice in the class of December 2020. She is an active volunteer beyond her volunteer work as a barista at Second Wind. She holds multiple jobs including Othello's on campus corner, as well as continuing her work as a full-time student at OU. She says “I wanted to give back to an institution that was a home for me when I had nowhere else to go.” Hannah's presence in the shop has been just as warming as her first experience here and we are elated for her service. Her dedication to the organizations and other projects is apparent and made her an easy candidate for the board and directors of Second Wind to unanimously approve as the recipient of this scholarship.
In her free time, Hannah enjoys singing, playing guitar and going to Muay Thai with Second Wind volunteers. Catch her performing during Open Mic Nights at the shop!
Starting in the spring semester, Hannah will begin studying abroad at the Université Paris-Dauphine in France. "I’ll be able to see the Eiffel Tower from my dorm and I couldn’t be more excited," she said. Hannah is semi-fluent in French but hopes to become fully fluent after this journey abroad.
